We would replace and label new items with her name, and they too would go missing. She was often dressed in clothing bearing someone else’s name. We were routinely asked if we were sure we had not taken these things home. On one occasion, when my friend had to be admitted to a hospital, the facility director at the time tried to refuse to accept her return to the facility, a practice known as “dumping.”īelongings: Many things disappeared never to be seen again: dentures, eye glasses, clothing, shoes and even her wedding rings. We were told staff can’t force anyone to have showers. There was a lot of turnover and indifference.Ĭare: My friend had multiple falls while here: from bed, from her wheelchair. Certainly, there were some responsible and compassionate caregivers, but those people came and went. Staffing: During her stay, Cary Rehab had 3 different directors, at least 2 nursing directors, 2 activity directors and COVID both within and without the facility more than once.
